Brief
Originally awash with grey when purchased by our clients, we were tasked with bringing colour and personality to this handsome London townhouse while ensuring it was a practical, liveable space that maintained a sense of harmony.
Design
Sensitive to the period detailing of this house, we created a home that spoke both to the contemporary tastes of our clients, as well as the age of the building. The superb stained glass front door required an equally striking entrance hall and so we replaced the floor with Victorian mosaic floor tiles in a contemporary colourway which echoed the star design. A refined palette of colours by Farrow & Ball flows throughout the open plan ground floor, which zones the space for different uses and allows our client’s collection of contemporary art to sing. Unobtrusive storage was crucial to this busy family and we commissioned high-end bespoke joinery, including alcove cabinetry, toy cupboards, utility storage, dining room banquette and dressing room. The addition of Crittall glazing in the kitchen flooded the space with light and views over the garden. Upstairs we configured the rear bedroom to create a walk-through dressing room leading to the master en suite where the fusion of Victorian-style hardware and antique furniture with a fresh, contemporary palette of colours and fabrics creates an enduring and joyful space.
Client
A professional couple with two young children.
We loved working with Ali and Alex on the refurbishment of our home. This was the first time we had worked with an interior designer and we could not have hoped for a more positive experience. We had moved into the house a couple of years earlier and whilst we loved it, it felt tired and lacked colour and personality. After our first consultation, I felt instantly at ease with Ali and Alex, confident that they would be able to help us achieve our vision. The end result is a perfect mix of colour and pattern and is a wonderful place to call home.
