Brief
After a fire caused significant damage to this beloved family home, our clients tasked us with the full refurbishment of the house, maintaining the same style and feel but updated and refreshed with colour and pattern.
Design
After a traumatic event, our clients felt understandably overwhelmed by the scale of the work that needed to be undertaken in this home in the Itchen Valley, with seven bedrooms, four bathrooms, and an abundance of magnificent reception rooms. We coordinated the entire project, working closely with a large team, which included builders and insurers. Filled with antiques and heirlooms, we were able to salvage some items, refurbish and refresh others and we sourced additional items to sit in harmony with existing pieces. We injected our Otta Design flair with elements of bold colour and patterned fabrics, while being sensitive to the original essence of this early Victorian country home. For our clients’ love of entertaining and hosting we brought in playful touches, such as the reeded high gloss red drinks bar with antique glass, striking geometric upholstery and chequerboard bathroom tiles, and created charming and comfortable guest bedrooms.
Client
An older couple with adult children and grandchildren, who had lived in the house for 30 years.
We had lived in our house for over 30 years when a serious fire occurred, meaning that the entire house needed to be gutted. The enormity of the task, coupled with dealing with the shock and sadness of events, led us to enlist the help of Otta Design. We felt in safe hands as we knew they had undertaken similar large-scale projects before, and the small, personal set up of the team suited us well. Alex and Ali were incredibly supportive, sensitive and dedicated throughout the two-year project. They cleverly interpreted our wishes through the design whilst also co-ordinating everything, which removed an immeasurable layer of admin, time and stress. We now have our family home back, just better than before, and we couldn’t be more delighted with the end result and with Otta Design’s valuable input.
