Dulwich pied-à-terre

Brief

We were asked to create a soft, calm and airy pied-à-terre, inviting and comfortable yet future proofed to ensure its practicality and suitability as our clients advance in age.

Design

We were careful to adopt a style sympathetic to the Victorian bones of the house, adding period features such as extended archways and panelling.

Space planning and storage were key in this compact pied-à-terre. Whilst no walls were knocked down or extensions built, we turned the existing room plans on their heads and reconfigured furniture layouts to ensure the best use of each space. We designed bespoke joinery in every room in order to maximise storage, with the additional benefit of adding visual appeal, such as the sunny yellow reeded joinery in the garden room.

To fulfil the design brief we used a defined, light colour palette throughout, with interest introduced by exquisite, patterned fabrics on the window treatments, soft furnishings and upholstery. We worked alongside an art consultant and trusted antiques dealers to source the perfect pieces to add depth to the schemes, making this once tired pied-à-terre feel like a much loved and lived in home.

Client

A couple returning from overseas and soon to enter retirement.

We were very fortunate to be recommended Otta Design to completely refurbish our home. Alex and Ali are charming, professional and friendly but what most impressed us was that they took the time to really listen and understand what we wanted. Prior to work commencing, they visited at least twice and explained clearly their working practice and price guides. They were totally engaged with the project, with regular emails, texts and site visits and always responded quickly to queries or requests. Alex certainly drove our project forward! We are delighted with our new home. Thank you Alex, Ali and Hannah.
