Abbeville Village Victorian Home

Brief

To transform the ground floor of this London home to reflect our client’s love of rich colour and pattern, championing skilled British designers and craftspeople.

Design

Our client’s dedication to craftsmanship, keen attention to detail, and appreciation of the Bloomsbury style forms the basis of this ground floor transformation.

We reconfigured the double reception room, moving the television into the darker rear reception, thus enabling our clients to enjoy reading and listening to music in the lighter front sitting room.

Bespoke creations were lovingly designed and sourced – from a hand painted mirror, lamp base and shade, through to the exquisite wooden display and TV joinery. The producers and manufacturing processes were as important as the designs themselves – a commitment to quality and supporting skilled artisans from the UK is a key theme throughout. There is a story and soul behind every piece.

Elegant, gently curved furniture, such as the sofa and chaise from Pinch, combine with rich layers of pattern and colour to create a collected and comfortable home. The redesigned space has also breathed new life into our client’s collection of treasured artwork and ceramics from their previous home.

Client

A retired couple who had downsized and relocated from the Home Counties to South West London.

We had the germ of an idea to revamp our ground floor, but had no idea how to make it happen. For once the algorithms played a blinder and I started following Otta on Instagram and felt that they might be the team for us, and so it proved.

We were struck by the professionalism Alex, Ali and Hannah demonstrated at every phase of the project. They gave us the confidence to explore colours, textures and fittings which we might not otherwise have chosen, because they really listened and got what we were hoping to achieve. There were a couple of leaps of faith along the way which were gently encouraged but never forced and were absolutely spot on once executed. There were also compromises, usually because of budget constraints, which allowed the overall aesthetic to be maintained without the feeling that shortcuts were being taken.

The Otta contact list was another major revelation, everyone we dealt with from builders, decorators to picture hangers was brilliant. We could get involved as much or as little as we wanted and enjoyed the visits to suppliers to fine tune designs.

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Otta, they have made our home feel special and we feel so lucky to have had such a positive experience with them.
